Over the last couple of years, MTB stage racing has reached a new high with 2 or 3 day events becoming increasingly popular. With this thrilling aspect in mind, Ecobound has developed Klein Karoo Klassiek, as a 3 day MTB stage event during the long weekend in June. With most routes not being too technically demanding, the aim is to involve all members of the family to take part in this event, as cycling has clearly become a family activity.The event takes place at Calitzdorp Spa, in the Klein Karoo. The Spa see most riders staying over for the weekend, as this conveniently is the start and finish for all the stages during the event and a excellent venue and family resort.
Day 1 will kick off with a new 93km Enduro that takes rides over the winding Rooiberg Pass. Rooiberg Lodge offers an exciting spectator point on this route with various amenities available. The Junior category will only do a distance of 45km to Assegaaibosch Lodge where they can be collected at this spectacular spectator point.
Day 2 provides riding for everyone with distances of 95km, 45km and a fun ride of 15km. The 95 km see riders meandering through the Groenfontein Valley and through the Red hills and into the open plains back to the Spa. The 45km is an enjoyable fast and flat route. The 15 km is for the youngsters of the family, with the route staying in close proximity of the Spa.
Day 3 is the eventful and exciting time trial over 45km.
With the Fuel Zone as entertainment area, suitably situated next to
both hot and cold swimming pools, post race relaxing time is in abundance. Grab a beer, beanbag and hotdog and relax to some live music! This promise to be an exciting and enjoyable weekend for all!
